Where the name comes from

Barsana is a small town in Braj, on a hill above the Mathura plains, revered as the birthplace of Shri Radha Rani. Her temple sits at the top; the lanes below are full of colour — flower sellers, painted walls, women in printed cotton, and a warmth toward strangers that stays with you long after you leave.

Barsana Collective began there. We wanted to make everyday things that carry that feeling — the prints, the softness, the unhurried craft — and, as we grow, to bring more of the work back to the families of Braj.

Barsana Collective logo — a temple on a hill seen through an arch, with blossoms

What the mark means

The arch is a jharokha — the window you look through in every Braj haveli. Inside it, the temple on the hill is Shriji, Barsana's own. The blossoms are the flowers sold in the lanes below. Three words underneath say the rest: rooted with love.

You'll find it stitched into the lining of every bag and printed on the tag — a small reminder of where the bag, and the idea, came from.

From the founder

A note from Vishakha

I’m Vishakha — a lawyer, a wife, a mother of two, and the founder of Barsana Collective.

I have always been drawn to traditional Indian textiles, craft, and objects made with thought. Over time, I realised that many of the pieces I loved were not always easy to find in forms that felt fresh, practical, and at home in everyday life.

Barsana Collective grew quietly from that thought: a place to bring together beautiful pieces, give them a fresh expression, and let them become part of daily routines.

I do not see this as a step away from my journey as a lawyer, but as another expression of growth — a reminder that a career, a family, and something of one’s own can all be held with care.

With honesty, creativity, and curiosity at its heart, I hope Barsana Collective keeps evolving — bringing thoughtful ideas, fresh perspectives, and a little more beauty into everyday life.

Journal

Lines from the Bhagavad Gita that we keep coming back to — for the workshop, and for everyday life.

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।

Your right is to the work alone, never to its fruits.

Bhagavad Gita 2.47

पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति।

A leaf, a flower, a fruit, a little water — offered with love, it is enough.

Bhagavad Gita 9.26

लिप्यते न स पापेन पद्मपत्रमिवाम्भसा॥

Untouched, like a lotus leaf resting on water.
